The Algonquin Log Cabin has an international reputation for tasty home made treats and as this picture can attest - the blackberry torte brings a smile to all ! Our cook, Joe Strub , pictured on the right, creates regional dishes like no other. Come up to the Log Cabin this fall and taste Joe's hearty soups and cornbread ! Hmmmmm !!

September hiking at the Log Cabin

Great to have people of all ages last week enjoying the hiking around the log cabin. The colours are coming on nicely... our guide team say that the leaves are 80% turned. Could be an early peak ! Our Cottage Outpost still has space if you can find the time to join us this week !

Favourite Fall Colour hikes

In September , the forest trails are filled with colour and make for some fantastic walking /hiking. We are producing an Algonquin hiking guide and would love to hear from our wilderness friends as to what your favouite Algonquin Park fall colour hikes are. Please send in your suggestions and and we will post late this month.

At the log cabin, I love to paddle down Surprise lake to Otter Creek and hike up the talus slope to the beaver meadow. The trail is typically filled with signs of Otters, wolves and deer. The meadow itself is great for exploring or taking a nap under a tall pine.

Down on the Algonquin park highway 60 corridor, the lookout trail offers an expanisive view filled with colour.

Photo Contest Submissions

I had the pleasure of having a sneak peak at some of the pictures that have been submitted for this year's photo contest which wraps up November 30, 2006. This year there is a lot of stiff competition including this picture which came from Mr. Wyn who took this on a sunset paddle on a Log Cabin trip last month. We have three categories this year : Best picture of people at the log cabin, best for people at the cottage outpost and best for people and wildlife. Send your shots by e-mail or mail to Tracy in our office !
