Birthday Celebration at the Cottage Outpost

I want to thank everyone who joined me at the Algonquin Cottage Outpost this past weekend! A group of 12 of us met at the Algonquin Cottage Outpost to celebrate a couple of birthdays! We divided ourselves between the Nahma, Magnetawan & Nipissing Cottages, which worked out really nicely. It was wonderful as the cottage and chalet suites are beside each other.

Friday night we set up a game of Texas Hold’em at the big dining room table in the Magnetawan Chalet. The game went on into the early hours of the morning! Saturday brought a sunny morning and I explored Kawawaymog Lake by canoe. We paddled around Blueberry Island and came upon a loon that kept popping up in front of us wherever we paddled. After a good paddle across the lake we returned to our cottage for lunch and a game of football on the lawn.

Another game of poker began in one of the cottages while some of our other friends decided to go for a hike to the Tower Trail Lookout. In the evening we set up a bonfire and roasted some marshmellows.

Sunday morning after a delicious breakfast of bacon and eggs we all packed up and drove back to the city. Everyone loved their time at the Cottage Outpost and cannot wait to do it all over again next year.

Algonquin Canoe in May

High water, warm days and no flies! The delight of an Algonquin canoe in May! Enjoyed a fabulous day led by Kendra and Kris – exploring the swollen creeks around our Algonquin Cottage Outpost. We came across Beavers, muskrats, Great Blue Herons and a pair of Merlin’s out on Kawawaymog Lake.

Learn to Kayak Algonquin

Thanks to Kris for a fantastic "learn to kayak" program this past weekend. On top of being our Operations Manager and all around super hero, Kris is our sea kayak instructor who runs learn to kayak programs out of our Algonquin Cottage Outpost as well as 3 and 5 day kayak trips on Georgian Bay and the 30, 000 islands. Kawawaymog Lake offers a great place to learn kayak skills and yet have the comfort of our Algonquin Cottage Outpost.

Naturalist and Guide Team

Late April/ early May is always fantastic at Algonquin and this year was no exception. Our guide and naturalist team were up at the Cottage Outpost running through new programs for the upcoming season. We had beautiful sunshine everyday and warm temperatures for canoeing, hiking, kayaking and fishing around Kawawaymog Lake. It was great to be back on the trail with our guide and naturalist team.

Here is a shot of Kris, Mike, Kendra and one of our new guides Dan - taken from the porch of the Magnetawan chalet suite. Click on the picture to view additional photos of the Algonquin Guide Team Weekend at the Algonquin Cottage Outpost
